Embracing the Winter Solstice

Dec 21, the Winter Solstice, is upon us. Typically occurring around December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere, the celestial event marks a pivotal moment in the Earth's orbit around the sun, where due to the angle of the sun and earth, the Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. In the meteorological community, it marks the end of fall and beginning of winter.

Historically, this day has held huge significance. Cultures worldwide have celebrated this astronomical event for centuries, recognizing it as a time of reflection, renewal, and the gradual return of sunlight.   The Ancient Pagan festivals of ‘Jule’,( aka “Yule’, as we know it), have given birth to many of our Christmas traditions including the Christmas wreath, Christmas trees, Yule log and mistletoe.

We grow hemp at Bay Mountain AG…. so while I contemplate the natural rhythms of the season, and the many traditions celebrating the stillness of this longest night, I want to talk about the connection between the winter solstice and how CBD’s natural properties can help bring health, tranquility and warmth to our winter season.

CBD: Nurturing Tranquility in Winter's Embrace

Cannabidiol, or CBD, derived from the hemp plant, has gained popularity for its ability to promote relaxation and balance within the body's endocannabinoid system. As the winter solstice beckons us to turn inward, CBD offers a natural companion for those seeking tranquility amidst the season's quiet beauty.

Stress and relaxation: The winter season brings added stress with holiday preparations, social obligations, and the challenges of navigating colder weather. CBD's natural properties may provide a welcome respite, helping individuals unwind and find a sense of calm during the bustling holiday season.

SAD: For some, the winter solstice coincides with the onset of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), characterized by a decline in mood and energy levels during the darker months. CBD's potential mood-stabilizing effects could offer a natural support system, helping individuals navigate the emotional nuances of the season with greater ease.

Skin and Muscle ailments: As winter brings dry air and colder temperatures, individuals contend with issues like dry skin or pain from wintry weather activities.  CBD-infused skincare products, known for their anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties, can be a soothing pain reliever and balm for winter-weary skin.

Conclusion

As the winter solstice invites us to reflect on the past year and embrace the promise of renewal, light a candle tonight, have a hot drink, and take a moment to nurture your well-being.  CBD is a natural ally in our journey toward tranquility and can allow us to find warmth and balance in the heart of the season's stillness.
